I tried searching all over and didn't get anywhere.

I have the Starlogic HD20W LCD panel, and I've been trying to get 1680x1050 resolution working with a Radeon 9200 card, and haven't converged on timings that work after several hours of effort.

Anyone have working timings for this monitor that I can use?

I am a pstrip newbie..

I am in the exact same boat...

Did you have any success?

I JUST was about to install powerstrip and I was wondering what the differences are between the registered version and the trail version?

I just want to make sure I understand what the trail version is missing so I can know if I will need the registered version to get this working.

Also, I have an older version of Powerstrip that came on my ATI 9200 CD driver disk...does anyone know if that qualifies me for a free upgrade to the registered version? Not a huge deal, but wirth asking, right?

Anyway, to the original poster, I do not recall if you mentioned anything about the manual, but I if you think it would help, I have the manual for the Starlogic, so if you need any info from it, just PM me.

no success. i tried for a while and didn't get a stable solution, so I gave up.

Was hoping I'd get some response to this but I haven't.

Well, it's a new day for me, so I hope to have some luck.

Could you tell me what timings you used and what problems you experienced so that I can save a bit of time by not covering too much of the same territory?

Thanks.

You should run MonInfo on the display and post the report. It contains the resolutions and timings officially supported by your display.

See this FAQ for an answer.

If you got PowerStrip with your ATI graphics card, it was a shareware, not a licensed version. If it appears to be licensed, I'm afraid its a pirated version.

Well,

I figured it out in a round about way...it turns out to be very simple, but if you go down the wrong path, you can easily end up in 'No Mans Land"...

Here's the solution going by memory so the actual buttons may be worded slightly differently, but you should get the idea...

I am not sure where this screen is when you run the program for the very first time (after it detects your cards and displays), because once you run it once it seems to automatically go into systray mode (even if you shut it down and restart it).

But the screen you need is called "Display Profiles" and shows 5 areas of information: Color Depth, Resolution, Options, Refresh Rate and finally Profiles

To access the (same) correct screen in Systray mode, just right-click the Powerstrip icon the systray and select Display Profiles and then select Configure...

Okay, so one way or the other you should be at the Display Profiles screen. From here click the Advanced Timing Options button. When the Advanced Timing Window appears, click on the Custom Resolutions button. When the Custom Resolutions button appears, scroll down the list of PRESET resolutions until you find 1680x1050p (LCD) and select it....then on the bottom right of the same screen select Add new resolution

Then simply close or apply (if enabled) your way all the way out of the Powerstrip windows.

What this did was to add that resolution the list of available resolutions available in display properties under control panel). So now all you need to do is go to Display Properties and SELECT 1680x1050.

and that's it.

But here is where things can go wrong and not seem to work....

At first I added a custom inf file that I created with PowerStrip that gave me the 1680x1050 resolution and I went to Device Manager and installed that INF file as the driver for the monitor. Well, that pretty much makes it all become nightmarish, because until you DELETE that driver (aka rollback) then the 1680x1050 mode will look awful. The way I figured this out was that I have TWO Starlogic monitors and although I did the INF file thing first, I had only applied it to one monitor. So when I did the correct thing (by simply adding the resolution) the other monitor looked great when I selected 1680x1050. After comparing everything, I finally figured out that it was the homemade INF driver that was messing up the monitor I had applied it to.

Now you may need to do all of the following to fix this if you added a custom INF driver:
1) Pick a LOWER supported resolution for the Starlogic Monitor (like 1280x 1024)
2) Rollback the Driver to the Microsoft (2001) driver.
3) Drop the monitor from the extended desktop
4) Unplug the monitor video cable
5) Reboot PC + Restart windows
6) Goto Control Panel->Find New Hardware and let Windows "Discover" the StarLogic Monitor again (hence applying the Plug and Play driver).

Note: The monitors are plugged into the DVI Ports, not the Analog ports.

Now I did all the above because even when I went back to the plug and play driver, windows still was not *really* letting go of the custom INF information (I could tell because the two Starlogic's I had looked totally different..one good and one bad). So after really dropping the monitor (I even unplugged the cable and did an extra reboot) I finally got windows to abandon the INF file and *really* use the Plug and Play driver...and once it did, it was as simply as selecting the right resolution in Control Panel -> Display->Settings

Hmm, you're not doing anything special here really..

Did this actually work, and do you have a stable 1650x1050 screen? The setting that comes with pstrip for 1650x1050 doesn't work with this monitor, which is why we need a user-defined custom timing setting..

I'll try to post the moninfo result when I get home.

Again, do you have a stable screen now with 1650x1050 resolution? That'd be a surprise...

If so, please get the timing settings into clipboard and post them here.

Oh, I know that I am not doing anything very special at all. That is kinda the point.

All the detail was really for future Powerstrip novices that may happen accross this thread. I just wanted to make sure I was detailed so that they didn't try to te-create the wheel. I was certain you did not need all that detail. (Also, I needed to write it up for myself as well so that when/if I move the monitors, I remember how simple it was to set this up, rather than going down the wrong (or at least more complex) path which I came VERY close to doing.).

As for the stability of the display...it seems fine to me...I mean, I am no expert or anything, which is why I tried some of the basic steps rather diving into timing settings right away. So I guess I am sort of asking what I would be looking for in regards to an *unstable* display? There is no shaking, or jittery-ness, or flickering. I have not tried any gaming yet, since this system is really not setup for gaming.

Some details about my setup:
While the 9200 cards I have are based on the ATI Radoen 9200 chipsets, they are manufactured by some knock off company called "Xtasy"...so they are probably not anywhere near as powerful as true ATI cards. As a matter of fact, I noticed that in some instances rendering seems a bit slow. However, that may be due to the system sluggishness (I am kinda building a new computer, but the parts are all about circa the 9200 chipset, ... and also I am tying in my older monitors which are probably taxing the 9200 and PCI bridge a bit,,,,Altogether I have two 9200 cards, each with TWO displays on them...so four displays on one big extended desktop.

Hey, by the way, speaking of performance...perhaps you know the answer to this: Whenever I boot up, I get an ATI window saying that the TV display is enabled (hence affecting performance I would imagine)...but the help file instructions do not really match the Catalyst interface well and I cannot seem to find a way to disable the TV out on the cards (there is not and never was anything plugged into the TV-OUT ports of the cards).

Do you know how I can disable the TV out? Everything I see indicates that they are already disabled..but the box telling to check it is supposed to only appear when they are enabled, so it is making me think that I am missing something. Anyway, any help on that would be appreciated.

Below is a snapshot of the PowerStrip Screens that I think you would be most interested in. I should also mention that BOTH of the StarLogic Monitors are connected to the DVI ports (not the 15pin D-Subs). Don't know if that would make any difference, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

HERE IS THE Add Custom Resolution WIndow where you can see the preset I selected:

By the way, the OSD (On Screen Display) Information of BOTH of the StarLogic's say:
DIGITAL: 1680x1050
H.: 64Khz
V.: 59.9Hz

Let me know if you need any more info.

Also, I should mention that I used a drawing program to create an area of 1680x1050 and it looks like the Starlogics are exactly right.: 1680x1050

Just as a sanity check so I know that I am not looking at 1600x1200 or some other aspect ratio, etc.

Good deal! I did try the in-built resolution like you did, and the display wasn't stable. Strange.

Anyways, I decided to return the monitor because the colors seem to be just a bit not quite right (I tested it out with DVI and VGA with another newer computer).

When I get another monitor I might try again.

I don't know if this is relevant, but the 1680x1050 timing will necessarily be different for DVI and VGA, even on the exact same display - the one in PowerStrip is for analog VGA, and while it might work for DVI, it may not be spot on.

If the monitor is truly Plug-and-Play, and it should be, you will find the perfect timing here:

1. PowerStrip menu > Display profiles > Configure > Advanced timing options > Custom resolutions
2. Check the radio button labelled "E-EDID"

This short list contains the resolutions and timings explicitly recommended and supported by StarLogic for your display.

3. Select the best resolution - hopefully the native resolution is there, or Starlogic has erred badly - then click "Add new resolution" and follow the instructions on screen

I'm using this monitor with a Diamond stealth ATI Raedon 9250 card. The card does not display the 1680X1050 mode as supported by the card/monitor. I managed to do a custom resolution of 1680X1050 with powerstrip and the monitor looks great. I mesed around with color settings by adjusting the Gamma settings along with the brighness and contrast and it looks goofy.

I checked the diamond E-EDID and all I get there is a 720P HD resolution and when I click on that everything goes blank....

BTW, will I have to redo the custom resolution when I get a DVI cable?
